How do I keep my hair from breaking off?

I am a white guy trying to grow my hair long. I want to try it at least once in my life. :) My hair is very curly, and it tends to frizz. I can barely touch some of my hair and a big clump comes out. I use non-frizz conditioner to keep my hair from fro-ing. I need some advice on how to keep my hair from breaking off.

Are there shampoos out there that do not cost an arm and a leg or smell like strawberries, may be something for men, the will help strengthen my hair.

Any other ideas?

Your question is how do you keep your hair from breaking off.

Hair breaks off when you get split ends. Split ends are caused by dry hair. So you have to moisturize your hair. However, you must have all the split ends cut off first, then start using a conditioner for your type of hair - oitherwise, your hair will still break off where it is already split.

I suggest you try a product on your hair to see if it gets rid of the dryness. Then get a haircut to get rid of the split ends %26amp; use the new product until your hair grows to the length you want it to be.

I am not "up" on which product you should use, since I don't have dry hair, but it looks like some of the other answerers have suggested products you can try.

I, personally, have a dry scalp, so I only wash my hair once a week %26amp; use the most natural shampoo I can find, as well as the most natural conditioner. I don't believe in putting all kinds of chemicals in or on my body, so I take the natural path. This works for me, but it might not work for someone with dry hair.

Good luck. I hope you find the right product to use.

Well if your hair is naturally curly it will be naturally dry because that's what us curly hair people have. First for shampoo try Redken smoothing shampoo it is the Redken for Men line, it is a professional product so it will be more expensive than suave or pantene. But it doesn't dry the hair out so it does help. Conditioner they have finish up conditioner. Your hair could be breaking off because you hair is so dry from the over the counter shampoo and it will take your hair twice as long to grow since dry shampoo breaks off easy. A styling product like gel will also keep it manageable. Good Luck!

Use pantenes color revitilaztion shampoo and conditioner. So yeah, pantene is NOT good for your hair. But in your situation, it is. It's full of oils that build up on your hair (in theory: making it stronger) It will also provide a shine while your hair is retaining needed vitamins. Leave the conditioner in for a minimum of 5 minutes a day, and wash out well. I just bleached my hair many, many times... and let me tell you: pantene is bad for your hair but good if you bleach it. Stop usage after each bottle is empty (use for a month or so)
